Sterling Silver and Gemstone - Bar Pendant

A simple pendant made from sterling silver and faux suede with glass beads and dyed agates. There is imperfection of 925 stamping at the back of the back pendant that i mistakenly hammered (with a perfect 925 stamping, so there are two stamps).

The colors of the stones and beads really pop up and make the whole design look more interesting. I wrapped a tiny 14K Gold Filled beads at the top of the green agate to add a little bit of contrast to pendant !

The winner of the design challenge. I pick this design due to the creative input and balance of the design. It's not that easy for beginner to make such symmetrical intricate earrings.

No, no, it's not the singer group The Refugees, these are a group of refugees that i taught few weeks ago. I hold three classes for them and I am really truly proud of them in term of their patient and effort. I must say their enthusiasm is really high even though we had a slight communication problem as some of them understand just a little bit of English (had interpreter though).

End of the second class i asked them to challenge themselves to make a piece of jewelry using their creativity with the skills and techniques that i taught, surprisingly they produce two to three pieces instead of one, aren't they great ! As for the winner of the challenge, i awarded her a pair of 14K Gold Filled drop earring.

Rivet - Mix Metal Brooch

Well i had people asking me to do brooch but then i have problem with the pin back as most it were made of plated steel or stainless steel (i am not fond of soldering the steel metal to silver). Its not that i don't want to do my own pin back but of Malaysian like brooches that the pin is hard and thin so that they can wear it on any fabric. I had accomplished brooches designs using wire stitching technique and require a lot of materials. In order to design something more simpler using metal sheet and disc, i learn how to do a rivet. Well I'm not taking any class but i learn it on my own by reading book.

I always had in mine that drilling and riveting are such a difficult techniques to learn (silly me though) but after first few trials it seem easy to accomplish. I should had learned these a long time ago when i bought the flex shaft.

The brooch that i made, is my 1st attempt on riveting, not very neat though but im happy with the result, it kinda reminds of a robot face..LOL !

Btw, while writing this post i had done a silver brooch and i will post it as soon as i photograph it, stay tune ya!

I been kicking my butt off these two weeks to finished these few pieces as a sneak preview on my new collection (i want to showcase them before new year !). Basically all these were made from the left over wires that i used in the collection and due to certain circumstances, i need a bit more time to finished off the original designs. The pure form the designs are concentrated more on the perfection of swirls element mix with delicacy layers of fine silver. Hopefully that i will be able to complete the collection soon !

I had the idea of making these large hoops before i went on my vacation. Originally, i want to make these in sterling silver but due to the high cost i made the base using brass, so that i can offer these at an affordable price. The diameter of these hoops are approximately around 5cm but they are light in weight. The colors of the dyed chalcedony reminds me of candies in a jar, that is how came out with the name. These will be available in Kaleidoscope in Solaris Dutamas.

These are the earrings that i created for dear polymer clay artist friend, Gee Suet Lian. She asked me to do something that are bold that will showcase her gorgeous polymer beads. Based on her drawing, i realization her imagination into a combination of classic and contemporary designs earrings. The earrings were constructed from brass, sterling silver and Argentium silver. I have to construct 20 pieces earrings for each design and such a good challenge to me.

Do look closely and pay attention to the details of the polymer clay beads and you can see that each of it was made with love of arts !

Something Old, Something New - Swiss Champagne Earrings

Well i have to admit i love and adore these earrings so much as these one of my 1st great pieces that i created when i learned weaving techniques.

This is the most difficult weave so far as it require a lot of patient (and wire too) to really ensure that it looks neat front and back. I only done thrice of this weave throughout my journey of creating jewelry.

The original design of these (see my my blog's main pic), the dangles are array of Sky Blue Topaz faceted rounds that really put some weights on the earrings. So i decided to replace the dangles to smaller size of Swiss Blue Topaz briolettes and its really decrease the weight and i think, much more elegant than the original.

Actually this should be a stone setting ring, if you could see that the middle part is a bezel setting that had been into half. I don't want to waste my silver so i 'beautify' the ring by cutting the bezel nicely and smooth out any rough edges and it so perfect to be worn.

These are part of my upcoming new collection, a bold swirls type of design with abstracts and fine details. They took me almost 3 days of designing and constructing these studs goddess. If you look closely i had sharpen the tip of the swirls and to make these i did a lot of filing, sanding and grinding as I'm using very thick gauge wire to form the swirls motif.

To add interesting pattern to the swirls, i weave a various gauges of fine silver wire to serpentine Sky Blue Topaz and draped at the bottom are sparkling Corundum Pink Topaz and Orange Sapphire.

p/s: i'm on the process of completing this new exciting collection, it might takes months to complete.

I been keeping these for a year as i don't know what to embellish these beauties with. Then yesterday, i browsed around my work table and found a few 14K Gold Filled beads that waiting to be used. I took the beads and started balled up my thin Argentium Silver wire and dangled the beads to the earrings. I oxidized them to a black gray finish, instead of buffing away the patina i leave it that way as 'black' silver looks so amazing with gold. I tumbled for 15 minutes for high shine finish.

The blacken silver looks mysterious while the gold filled beads add some kind of pop of color to the earrings.

I made this for quite sometimes and i forget to photograph the pictures until recently KitaKita ask for this pendant to be placed in their boutique. What i love about this pendant are the simplicity of the design and the way moonstone set. For the bezel's stepped, i challenged myself to use 18ga wire, it is thin (usually i use 16 - 12ga) but then do the job very well. For contrast, I use a 14K Gold Filled wire to wrapped loop the amethyst.

At last, i had the chance to introduce my new pieces that took me almost a 'chaotic' week to finish embellished. The bracelet is my 1st piece that i incorporate bezel setting into my design. It seems tough to construct the stepped bezel at first but after a few trials (and silver wastage) i be able to learn a good way of doing it but still need to improvise.

For both design i use 13ga sterling silver with special anti tarnish formulation (except for the bezel strip, Argentium silver) and i must say that i really really love it due to it properties that are better than Argentium and Sterling (though i still like working with all silver alloys). And the silver is still on my anti tarnish observation..

These two days i overworked myself to fine tune stepped bezels construction. I overcome my fear as i always think that I'm not able to construct my own bezel as i never take any course on bezel making. Phew!!

I know i had left my blog too long without updating anything even my (with Katrina) current Lex Bazaar last Saturday. It had been very hectic weeks that full of classes ( gems setting) and customized orders (though i won't be able to update that, pity me).

I made this ring two months back but i never had the chance to photograph it. This ring is my private collection that i keep for myself and i'm using the techniques in my Majestic Ring tutorial. The stone that i used is called JayJay or JJ (could not find the description of this beauty over the net) as i was told by the seller and if you can see that it has white smoke trap inside the stone that makes me fall in love when i saw it for the 1st time. At the Crafty Bazaar, me and Kat met this wonderful lady, Nori. She offered us to place our jewelry at she and her partners' high end Malaysian handcrafted boutique named KitaKita located in Plaza Damansara. Well, we went there and instantly totally fell in love with the decoration and design of the boutique. We agreed to display (for sale of course) our jewelries for two months as a trial but within a week we had people buying our jewelry until we need to re-stock and i must say that one of the customer is from the Royal family. We're so happy and thanx to Kak Nori and partners for believing in our arts. Showcase are a few pieces that i made for the boutique.

My First Bezel Setting - Brass, Sterling Silver and Fine Silver with Labradorite

Finally i did it..Yay..But there are flaws here and there that i need to improvise. I do not posses a small cabochon to practice with, so i used this x large Labradorite as the focal stone (i love Labradorite so much !). As it was my first attempt, i used a brass sheets as the back plate as i do not want to sacrifice my silver sheet yet. It turn out that the stone fitted well to the bezel as i did not needed to adjust the bezel wall at all..Huhu..Here are some interesting things that i throughout the process :-

1. I used an old torch that i need to blow the air by pressing the air bellow using my feet while controlling the torch (with flame) with my hand and i must it is so cool to use this traditional torch.
2. I learned how to use the saw and i did not broke the saw blade at all, maybe because i'm using the Knew Concept Saw. I will try the traditional later on to see the difference.
3. I missed to solder some spots between the bezel wall and the brass back plate as i rushed while doing it.

It is fun to learn new skills and i will try to master these (bezel set, saw, filing etc) before going to the next level, that is prong setting.

I made several bold simple design hoops that i named Crystallious Hoops as i adorned them with Crystals (these can be find at beading.my) and my favorite design is the Purple Eden Earrings that was finely crafted from brass, copper and silver with rare cut amethyst rondelles.

I was so busy running here and there in the past two days searching for displays for the incoming craft show but i did took some times and managed to construct these earrings..Feel great..These are one of the pieces that i will showcase at the Crafty Market this Saturday. If you notice, that this design is actually similar to my early design named Icy Tea earrings, it had been a long time for me to recreate this design in silver and at last, i did it and i slightly refined the techniques in spiral and weaving..As i want it to be bold and light at the same time, i finely crafted these from 18ga sterling silver wire and 26ga fine silver wire. I adorned them with very pale Sky Blue Topaz and Kyanite at the top while at the bottom draped a magnificent London Blue Corundum Topaz and Petrol Sapphire.

I bought a spool of 20ga and 25ga half hard gold filled wire last week. I had attempt to make two pairs of earrings from 4.3 meters of 20ga wires and most of it had been sacrifice during the experiment..LOL..I love the color of the gold but i don't feel to like it so much as i like silver, i don't know why..I will post the pics by next week if possible..Right now I'm busy with making jewelry for craft market!

London Ice Ring and Brooch - Silver Plated with Swarovski Crytals

This is the other ring that i made for my client. It was hard for me to figure out on how to make this ring adjustable as the core design is a large teardrop shape (and i can't solder at all) but at the end i came up with something that is great, i place the round (the ring shank) frame in the center of the teardrop frame and weaved it together. Lastly, I stitched my favorite colors of Swarovski crystals along with sterling silver beads. I will possibly make this ring again in Sterling or Argentium silver. The last pic shown a brooch that i made to compliment with the ring.

p/s : I love making brooch at this moment as it is something i try to attempt for along time.

The Purple Divine Ring - Silver Plated with Cubic Zirconia

It has been a while i do not use silver plated wire(i'm using Designer Craft Wire from beading.my) for crafting my jewelery though it is still fun to use it. In order to preserve the color of the wire, i carefully shaped, hammered, pressed and held it with firm but gentle movement. This ring is for my lovely customer (and also my mother's friend) that love to wear ring so much, i had made several rings for her before (though i do not post it here) and she keeps coming back for more. This is an invention from my 3-D ring tutorial that i give a bit of different twist to the top part of the design. Actually she asked me to do two rings and i will post the other one as soon as i photograph it.

p/s : I know there is a person waiting for me to use this beautiful Cubic Zirconia. Tq dear for the stone.

Chocolate Delight Pin Brooch - Sterling Silver with Tunduru Sapphire and Aptatitew

This another version of my pin brooch design. It was constructed from 20ga half hard Argentium wire and was tumbled for more strength and shine. I wrapped the large focal and stitched it with Tunduru Sapphire (most amazing chocolate color Sapphire) and Apatite rondelles. I love making this type of pin brooch at the moment, maybe more to come !

I made these from my using sterling silver wires from my 'undone' ring project that were lush with array of chains. I purposely blackened the whole pieces and add neon light of Lemon Topaz ovals for a dramatic contrast. The skills used were simple but the design are great enough to stun people.

At last i made a pin brooch ! The enthusiasm to try this when i was ask by my student to teach her to make brooches. I try figure out what are the best brooches for her to learn (as she is at a beginner level), i came out with two designs, one is pin brooch (as per above) and the other is designing brooch using 'ready made flat back' pin (nickel silver). As for this brooch, i construct it from scratch by using hard Argenitum silver wire with Sky Blue Topaz and i hardened it more (prior stitching the stone) by tumbling it. I enjoy making this as it is very simple, elegant and unique!

Rose, Loops and Organic Vines Pendant - To Mei with passion

This pendant is a custom order for a lovely women named Mei Ling. She fond of vintage and Victorian designs jewelry. Actually this is a remake pendant but in very different twist (as every jewelry piece is OOAK). What i love about this pendant is the bottom part, whereby thin fine silver wires were twisted and balled up (a very cool technique actually) and soldered to the copper frame. Originally, i choose a hexagon shape rose quartz for the pendant but i think it get lost somewhere during shipment and i bought an extra large teardrop shape rose quartz from a local supplier (i tell you, this is hard to find, and thanx to Mas for her help). I could not photographed the pendant beautifully as i used the wall light and i need to send this to Mei Ling by tomorrow.

This pendant is inspired from my metalsmithing class 's project but I refine certain areas of the pendant to portray my originality in design. Draped at the bottom of the heart are magnificent Sky Blue Topaz and vivid London Corundum Topaz that i hand wrapped using thin gauge fine silver wire. Overall i love the simplicity of the design combine with truly royal colored gemstones.

I spent almost 2 days to finish these earrings. Why? because i had troubled choosing stones to compliment with the intricate design frames. At first, i stitched labradorite briolettes but then i accidentally dropped one of the earrings to the floor and the brio cracked slightly at the top part...arggh..Then i took out every briolette in my stones case and try to match each pair of briolettes to the frames but it did not turn out nice, some too large some too small. Then i went back home and checked my stones stock that meant to be sold at Etsy and finally found this pair of star cut Iolite that i don't list yet on Etsy. I placed them to frames and wah la, they seem peeerrrrrrfect !

First Metalsmithing Class 01 At beading.my

Yesterday was my first time teaching metalsmithing at beading.my in Wangsa Maju. I was so nervous the day before as i don't even practice on how to give the talk but then thank God for helping me throughout the class, i felt relax and it went smoothly...Phew..By the I'm so glad that everybody was having fun though they had to struggle soldering the Swirls filigrees for about three hours but i can see the joy in everybody face when they finally joined all the filigrees to the frame. After they finished polishing the pendant, i taught them to ball up the end of the wire as i always did in most of my jewelry design. Everybody was so excited about to do it and i know Kak Mastura from whimsicalnquirky was the most eager to learn this technique. The above pic is the outcome produced by Kak Mas during the class, check out her blog if you want to see more photos on the process of the class.

I finished making all these silver pieces by last week but then i have less time to photographed and i finally completed the photography by yesterday..Phew..For this collection i used little wrapping (just for the stones) and joined the structure of these pieces by using soldering technique. I keep the bold signature designs but constructed them less intricate, so these pieces can be worn everyday for any kind of functions !

Le Victorian Cuff / Bracelet

Actually this piece is made from my unfinished project and mistakenly shape frames from earrings and pendants. As i do not want to waste my precious silver, I used my creativity to combine all these frames and layer each one of them on top of a triangular frame (that is also hand fabricated !) and wrapped with thin fine silver wire, wah la a Le Victorian Cuff / Bracelet is born. I allured the cuff with stunning gemstones such as royal London blue topaz, ink blue kyanite, aqua apatite and lavender tanzanite.

Untitled Pendant

This pendant had been name 'untitled' because i can't really think any name for it right now but the design inspired is by flower petals in a wild jungle. This is the most time consuming pendant i ever made as i had to solder all the petals to the small round ring and join again to the large round frame and i struggle a lot as i am a beginner in metalsmithing (while making this). By the way i like the way how it turn out but i don't like it because i made it less solid as I'm using 19ga Ag wire for the large round frame. The pendant is lush with 15cwt lilac eye clean Amethyst, chrome diopside, green and blue sapphire, aptite, peridot and orange sapphire.

p/s: i love the weaves that serpentine the Amethyst!

Re-Design Pieces

- I stitched three silver beads and sapphire to the crown focal of the sea empress necklace

- I change the focal gemstones and the drops.

- I wrapped a small round frame at the bottom and replace the orange quartz with natural citrine, Swiss blue topaz and kyanite.

Sometimes i have this emotional madness when i look at something and find it not interesting or need an adjustment. Same go to these pieces that i change certain parts of them to make the designs look more elegant (maybe, perhaps!). As an artist, this kind of thinking is common, am i right?

Phew, finally i had the time to sit down (on chair of course) and write a few updates. I know, it is terrible to abandon my blog for such a long time without any news..Hmm..There are a lot of things going on in my life since my last post..Here are the things that i had done during that period:-

Setting up a gemstones shop at Etsy with my long time partner. I bought a numerous amount of top grade gems from India and Thailand such as apatite, amethyst, citrine, iolite etc. Check them out at alluregem.etsy.com !
Been learning on perfecting my metalsmithing skills especially on soldering and shaping. I did sacrifice a lot of my precious silver wire for experimenting but it is worth every wasted wire!
I bought a good amount of Argentium silver to play with. The result: Love the new silver.
I spent a lot of time designed and re-designed (the pieces from previous collections) and had completed six pieces to be listed in my Etsy shop. They took sometimes to be completed as i been doing a lot of resourcing on gemstones to compliment the new (and old) designs...Urghh I'm getting madder this time.
Helping my mama preparing things for my sister for her enrollment in UDM. We went there twice to settle certain problems. I did recalled my 'wild' years in college as we passed through the Uni area.
Fulfilling my make up jobs that had been booked quite a few months back. I done several weddings during the weekends. Hopefully the brides love my make up!
I traveled to Kelantan to help my grandma designing her new house interior. I never thought she love what i had choose as she always wants people to follow her opinions...Yay i win!

It's has been a long time that i don't upload any of my make up photos. I had all the photo processed and had mistakenly deleted them from the file. These are my latest make over, Elly and Anne (or i called her Aunt Anne). Anne actually my father's friend since 2000 (i think), and she's my regular client, she's been liking me to do her make up since the first time i glam her up for a function. Yesterday, she came with her son's GF and asked me to beautify her too. Anne love heavy contour make up but this time i lightly shaded her face and concentrated more on her eyes (black gray), as for Elly, she request a little contour and a dark eyes look.

It has been a while i do not update my blog due to my hectic schedule searching for semi precious stone. I have several pieces of jewelry that need to be photographed, maybe by end of this week i will publish them on the blog. Hmm..

The Mandronyx Earrings were named based on the earrings main stones, Mandarin Garnet and Onyx. Finely made from various gauges of fine & sterling silver wire and chains (i used a different one). Delighted with magnificent gems such as Mandarin Garnet, Onyx, Smokey Quartz and Lemon Quartz (stitched at the top of the earrings for more unique touch). These beauties are light in weight and great for every day wear.
